Hello December! The holidays are upon us and it's time to get cozy in our holiday pajamas with a mug of hot chocolate and countdown the days until Santa is on his way. What better way to get the kids excited for the holiday season than to get crafty!
At CareFinder, we are introducing 3 crafts easy ideas using a commonly found household item: paper plates. For these crafts, the main material you need is paper plates. You can get creative with the rest of the materials and use whatever is available in your house!
Christmas Tree
There's no such thing as an overdecorated Christmas tree!
Materials
- Paper plate
- Scissors
- Tape
- Markers, paint, colored pencils or crayons
- Hole puncher
- Yarn or ribbon
- Decorating materials such as: construction paper, glitter glue, pom poms, buttons, spangles, etc.
Instructions
1. Color the paper plate green.
2. Cut the colored paper plate into three even triangles. You may want to give a hand with this step to make sure the triangles aren't too out of balance.
3. Line the triangles vertically to form a tree and tape the triangles together from the back.
4. Punch holes on the sides of the trees and thread the yarn or ribbon through. Tape the ends of the yarn or ribbon on the backside of the tree.
5. Cut a piece of brown construction paper or color a piece of paper brown and tape it to the bottom of the tree to create your stump.
6. Now it's time to get decorating! Get creative with the materials you have at home or head over to the 100 yen store and grab some Christmas themed spangles and tape!
Christmas Wreath
Make a wreath for every door in the house!
Materials
- Paper plate
- Scissors
- Tape
- Markers, paint, colored pencils or crayons
- Hole puncher
- Yarn or ribbon
- Decorating materials such as: construction paper, glitter glue, pom poms, buttons, spangles, etc.
Instructions
1. Lightly fold the paper plate in half to make a slit with your scissors. Cut out a circle in your paper plate to create wheel. You may want to give a hand with this step.
2. Color the paper plate green.
3. Punch holes along the wreath.
4. Take several or one yarn/ribbon and weave it through the holes. Tie the ends together in a bow.
5. Now it's time to get decorating!
Snowman

Materials
- Paper plate
- Scissors
- Tape
- Markers, paint, colored pencils or crayons
- Colored construction paper
- Decorating materials such as: construction paper, glitter glue, pom poms, buttons, spangles, etc.
Instructions
1. Line two paper plates vertically on top of each other to create the shape of a snowman. Tape the two plates together.
2. Take a piece of an orange construction paper and cut out a carrot-shaped triangle for your snowman's nose. Tape or glue the nose onto the snowman.
3. Take any color of construction paper and cut out the snowman's scarf. Tape or glue the scarf onto the snowman.
4. Get creative and cut out any other piece you want for your snowman from construction paper. Give him a hat, an arm, a mustache, whatever you desire!
5. You can either use markers or buttons and pom poms to give your snowman eyes and a mouth.
6. Bring your snowman to life by giving him/her character!
