From Setagaya's largest fireworks festival to a cat parade, make the most out of the upcoming weekend with these kid-friendly events around Tokyo! 

 

1. Tamagawa Fireworks Festival

Date: 10/13, Saturday 6:00-7:00pm

Location: Tamagawa (Futakotamagawa)

Setagaya's largest fireworks festival is welcoming its 40th year in October instead of August this year. Now an autumn event, the festival will feature 6,000 shots of fireworks and a lively array of shops from 3:00 pm. Come early and leave a little early too to avoid the crowds!

*Festival will be cancelled if it rains.

 

2. Design Ah! Exhibition 

Date: ~10/18 10:00am-5:00pm

Location: Miraikan (Odaiba)

Based on NHK's Educational TV program "Design Ah!", this exhibition expands the program into an experiential space where visitors can look, think, and create. Although originally designed especially for children, this exhibition is sure to expand all visitors' creative minds.

 

3. Tokyo Harvest Festival

Date: 10/11-13 Thursday & Friday 4:00-8:00pm, Saturday 10:00 am-7:00 pm

Location: Toranomon Hills (Minato-ku)

As a festival meant to show our respect and gratitude to farmers and fishers across the country, the Tokyo Harvest Festival features 100 different experiences to help visitors learn about Japan's food culture. Children can eat, learn, create, touch, move, and listen through various activities such as rice planting and karate.

 

4. Cat Festival

Date: 10/14 Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm

Registration: 10:00am-1:50pm

Parade: 2:00-3:00pm

Street Dancing: 12:00-5:00pm

Location: Kagurazaka

An area closely related to the famous Natsume Soseki's satirical novel "I am a cat" since the Edo period, join the city of Kagurazaka in celebrating these mischievous felines. Come early to have your face painted like a cat to join in on the parade! There is a special mission just for children: find the rogue cat for a candy prize!

 

5. AQUA POP HALLOWEEN direct by NAKED

Date: ~10/31 10:00-22:00

Location: Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa

Enjoy the aquarium's dolphin show that celebrates halloween with fall flowers and pumpkins and music that makes you want to jump out of your seats and start dancing!
