From goldfish to sumo, make the most out of the upcoming weekend with these kid-friendly events around Tokyo! 

 

1. Children's Experience Festival

Date: 9/15, Saturday 10:00-16:00

Location: Yoyogi Park (Harajuku/Shibuya)

Come and enjoy activities including making wooden keychains, learning and playing with renewable energy, and going for a pony ride. There is also a flee market going on at the same time!

 

2. Tokyo Goldfish Wonderland

Date: ~9/30 9:00-21:00

Location: Sumida Aquarium (Oshiage)

Enjoy a special exhibition of more than dozen species of goldfish at the Sumida Aquarium near Tokyo Skytree!

 

3. Ark Hills Autumn Festival

Date: 9/14, Friday 11:00-21:00, 9/15, Saturday 10:00-20:00, 9/16, Sunday 10:00-19:00

Location: Ark Hills (Akasaka)

Enjoy traditional Bon festival dance, portable shrine and parade floats, festival stalls and traditional game booths, and traditional cultural workshops. Different attractions are available on different days so make sure you check out the schedule on the website's online brochure.

 

4. Nezu Shrine Festival

Date: 9/15, Saturday and 9/16, Sunday 12:00-20:00

Location: Nezu Shrine (Bunkyo)

Enjoy traditional festival dance and music, food stalls and games!

 

5. Motoshinmei Shrine Festival

Date: 9/15, Saturday 11:00-21:00, 9/16, Sunday 10:00-21:00

Location: Motoshinmei Shrine (Mita)

Enjoy traditional festival dance and music, food stalls and games on both days. Sunday features mikoshi portable shrine carrying and taiko drumming from 10 am both inside the shrine and outside on the streets surrounding the shrine.

 

6. Setagaya Hachimangu Autumn Festival

Date: 9/15, Saturday and 9/16, Sunday 14:00-21:00

Location: Setagaya Hachimangu Shrine (Miyanosaka)

Like other Japanese festivals, the Setagaya Hachimangu Autumn Festival features traditional festival dance and music, mikoshi, food stalls and games. What makes this festival special however, is the large dohyo placed in front of the shrine for ritual sumo. Sumo starts at 2 pm on Saturday.
