Babysitter of the Month: Susie
2019-04-17
The babysitters in the CareFinder community have many unique backgrounds, talents and insights into what makes a good sitter. Every month, we highlight someone doing an exceptional job. This month we'd like to introduce you to Susie!
Susie's nationality is Japanese, but says her soul is in Lincolnton, North Carolina, USA. It's a little town that her family moved to so her father could build his company. Susie lived there for 11 years, from first grade all the way through to her sophomore year in high school. She then moved back to Japan, finished high school and went to Kansai Gaidai University, where she majored in English.
After graduation, she worked in the entertainment industry making movies and kids TV shows. A couple of years passed and she met the love of her life and is now happily married with two children: a six-year-old and an eight-year-old!
Susie is a great storyteller, thanks to her professional background, an excellent cook and loves to do outdoor activities as well! In addition to babysitting, she currently teaches English to elementary-age students from home.
We asked Susie to answer a few questions to get to know her better.
What drew you to babysitting?
I had a hard time when my kids were little and I thought that I would love to help out Mom and Dads!
What do you like about working on CareFinder?
The children and parents that I have worked for have all been so wonderful!!
What do you like best about babysitting?
When the child or children see me at their door and they come running for me with a huge smile. Just melts my heart!
What do you find most challenging about babysitting?
When the child or children start to miss their parents after a couple of hours, it is challenging to keep them smiling, but I try to keep things fun for them every second!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Look, or go to places that may be fun for everyone at any age.
In what ways have working with kids impacted your life?
It has actually made me be a better mother. Every child I took care of is raised differently and acts differently. Seeing different sides and feelings of so many children has taught me to handle and care for children and my own children in better ways.
Do you have any fond memories or stories from babysitting?
I got to take a child to get their first pet! I even got to help name him. That was an unforgettable precious day!
What's your philosophy when it comes to caring for children?
Children need to be given a warm, safe, trusting environment by adults and I try to understand what each and every child feels and acts. Each child is different, so they need to be treated they way that fits them.
