This month, we’d like to introduce you to Laurel!

Laurel was born and raised in Singapore and as such, she is bilingual in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Laurel first came to Japan to study education at a university in Tokyo but have since then graduated and been working on her Japanese. She has now been living in Japan for three years and have also lived in London for a year.

Families that have worked with Laurel describe her as flexible, responsible, interactive, positive and energetic. One family commented that even though Laurel doesn't list Japanese as one of the languages that she can speak, her Japanese was working-level and a great help to caring for her son. Another family highlighted Laurel's ability to connect with children saying that their children saw Laurel as a playmate and friend and could easily confide in her.  

We asked Laurel to answer a few questions to get to know her better:

What drew you to babysitting?

I have always enjoyed playing with children. It dawned on me one day that I would not only like to play with them but to have more interactions with them, care for them, and be able to contribute to their growth in any way possible. Babysitting is one way that I am able to spend more time with them.

What do you like about working on Carefinder?

Working at CareFinder has been a joy, as I get to meet with many different families and children. The staff at CareFinder are really efficient and reliable. Whenever I have an issue with the system, they are always there to assist me.

What do you like about babysitting?

I have always liked children. In particular, I like to interact with them and see the world through their eyes. Each child is special and unique, and by caring for them I get to learn more about the infinite possibilities that exists.

What do you find most challenging about babysitting?

The most challenging thing about babysitting is to find a balance between being able to have fun but at the same time impart some values through the various interactions.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy cooking, singing, eating and hanging out with my friends.
