13 Free, Fun Supplemental Education Resources

Last week, we posted an article that outlined all of the non-traditional things your children are learning while out of the classroom. And we think those things are very valuable lessons to learn!
But of course, we also understand that you may be worried about your child's education. While many schools have done amazing things with regard to virtual learning, your kids may benefit from some supplemental resources.
And you're in luck! We've rounded up some incredible fun and educational tools (many of them free!) that you can use with your kids in the comfort of your own home. Check them out!
Scholastic is a long-trusted source of books and other educational material for children of all ages. Now you can access daily projects for kids from pre-k through ninth grade that help children with reading. There are also additional resources parents can use, like an online book store and math worksheets.
PBS is home to kids' favorites like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Arthur and Sesame Street. And parents can use a special website set up just for them to access arts and crafts, educational games, print-outs and news and tips for parenting. Plus, there's a newsletter that includes daily tips for helping children during school closures.
National Geographic is a trusted source for information and education on our natural world. The kids' version is more of the same - with lots of fun games, quizzes, scientific facts and more.
Khan Academy provides free educational resources for kids aged two to seven. The programs are available to download via app, making them easily accessible on your tablet or smart phone - for education anywhere.
Don't worry about running out of reading material! The Global Digital Library has tons of books - in dozens of languages and several reading levels - that your family can pick by topic.
Storyweaver is another option for books if you have a voracious reader at home. With thousands of open-source stories available for translation and download, you'll have plenty to stay occupied. Plus, there is a fun and imaginative tool that allows your family to create and illustrate your own digital stories!
With food-based activities and lessons, the Kid's America's Test Kitchen is chock-full of recipes that will keep kids busy and educated (we've said before: the kitchen is a great place to learn science!). There are daily recipes to try and a great kid-friendly podcast the whole family can listen to.
If you have a young learner at home who benefits from tangible, visual lessons, check out Boardmaker! Each activity can be downloaded and printed out. While this service does usually come with a subscription fee, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial, which is plenty of time to download materials!
CK-12 Foundation offers a lot of really cool learning resources. Many are a little more thorough than just a video lesson, so this is a great option for parents who have the time and bandwidth to really dig in. There are also opportunities to connect with a larger community to share advice (and maybe commiserate a little!).
Where would you go for the best arts and crafts other than Crayola! With plenty of creative ideas to choose from, Crayola is even highlighting some amazing, easy DIY projects that kids can tackle with supplies you already have laying around the house.
HippoCampus has (other than a cute name!) more than 7,000 free videos in 13 subjects. Your kids can get supplemental lessons in chemistry, statistics, English, economics and more.
Noggin is providing parents of young children with "smart schedules" -daily lessons focused on a weekly theme - featuring some favorite characters from kid's TV shows. You can also tap into a free trial to get access to thousands of episodes of fan favorites like Peppa Pig and PAW Patrol.
Many of CareFinder's sitters are certified educators and/or speak one or several of dozens of languages. They make wonderful resources for tutoring, language enrichment or homework help. We also encourage you to make use of platforms like What's App, FaceTime and Skype for remote lessons with our sitters (we don't consider this going offline!) if you prefer.
